About the Artist
Rajaram Sharma
Born in 1963 in Bijoliya, Bhilwara (Rajasthan), Rajaram Sharma is a master of traditional Pichwai painting, celebrated for his deep devotion to this intricate and spiritually rooted art form. Though he was born in a small town, his artistic journey led him to Nathdwara—the sacred center of Pichwai—where he immersed himself in the discipline and philosophy of devotional art. Over the decades, his work has become known for its meticulous detail, balanced compositions, and the ability to evoke divine presence through brush and color. Rajaram Sharma’s paintings have quietly adorned temples, homes, and private collections across India and abroad. Despite his stature, he remains grounded, choosing a life of simplicity, focused practice, and mentorship. His studio is not just a place of creation, but also a space where tradition is nurtured and passed on to future generations with sincerity and devotion.
Creativity Has No
BOUNDARIES
From an early age, he showed a natural affinity for drawing and traditional motifs. His early influences came from the devotional atmosphere around him, steeped in tales of Krishna and temple rituals. Inspired by the spiritual and artistic environment of Rajasthan, he eventually found his calling in Pichwai painting. His formal training began under traditional master Tulidas Das Sharma, following the guru-shishya parampara, for a dedicated period of 12 years. After mastering foundational skills, he moved to Udaipur to broaden his artistic understanding under the guidance of legendary artist B.G. Sharma, with whom he trained for the next 10 years. This dual lineage of training laid a strong and diverse artistic foundation, deeply rooted in tradition and refined by exposure to a broader Indian miniature art vocabulary.
Journey as an Artist

A trained artist himself, Rajat holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, which has further strengthened his foundation and broadened his artistic vision. Through his own journey, he continues to explore the depth of Pichwai and Indian miniature art, blending inherited knowledge with contemporary sensibilities while staying true to the essence of the tradition.
Together with his father, Rajat is now on a mission to create global awareness of Pichwai art by teaching students and art lovers across the world. This initiative reflects not only a commitment to preservation but also to sharing the spiritual and cultural richness of this 400-year-old tradition with new generations.
With the establishment of the Artist Rajaram Sharma Foundation, Rajat is dedicated to building a platform that nurtures emerging artists, promotes cultural awareness, and ensures that the legacy of devotion and creativity continues to inspire for centuries to come.
